About JyotishDada

What this site is

JyotishDada (also written “Jyotish Dada”) is a free daily Hindu panchang and Jyotish (Vedic astrology) reference site. Every day it publishes Tithi, Nakshatra, Yoga, Karana, sunrise/sunset, Rahu Kaal, and Choghadiya for your city, alongside festival and vrat dates, muhurat (auspicious timing) calculators, and birth-chart tools like Kundali, Horoscope Matching, and a Baby Name Finder based on Nakshatra.

The goal is simple: the panchang lookups people check every morning — "today’s tithi", "Rahu Kaal timing", "Ekadashi this month" — presented clearly and loading fast, without the clutter and dated design that older panchang sites are often weighed down by.

How the calculations work

The astronomical core of this site — planetary positions, sunrise/sunset, tithi, nakshatra, yoga, and karana — is computed using the Swiss Ephemeris, the same astronomical engine widely used across professional and hobbyist Jyotish software, computed fresh for each city and date rather than pulled from a pre-published table. We use the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, the standard reference point for Indian sidereal astrology, with an Equal house system for chart calculations.

We take accuracy seriously: every core panchang field (Tithi, Nakshatra, Yoga, Karana, sunrise/sunset) has been spot-checked against independently published reference data, and we keep a running internal log of exactly what’s been verified and what hasn’t. If you ever notice a timing that looks off for your city, please let us know — we’d rather hear about it and fix it than have it sit wrong.

Accuracy and limitations

Panchang and chart values are calculated, not copied, but no calculation is beyond question. Sunrise definitions, the ayanamsa and regional rules for choosing a festival day differ between traditions, so a reputable source can differ from us by a few minutes or, for a festival, by a day. Where a festival date has not yet been added to our live calculator, or a tool uses a simplified rule, the page says so beside the result.

Our Editorial Policy explains how data is produced, how the written guides are researched and reviewed, and how we handle corrections.

Who writes this site

JyotishDada is an independent project. The calculators are built in-house, and the written content — the Learn guides, festival and vrat descriptions and tool explanations — is published by the JyotishDada Editorial Team. Reader reports are the main way we find and fix mistakes.

How the site is funded

The site is free. It may show advertising to cover hosting and development costs; advertising never influences calculations or editorial content.

What this site doesn't do

We don’t require an account, we don’t sell astrologer consultations or push products through the calculators, and we don’t store your birth details after a calculation finishes (see our Privacy Policy for the full detail). Predictive content (Rashifal, dosha checks, and similar) is offered in the same spirit these tools are traditionally used — as guidance and a starting point for reflection, not as certainty about the future.
