Devshayani Ekadashi marks the start of Chaturmas, the four-month period when Lord Vishnu is believed to go into cosmic sleep.
Weddings and other auspicious ceremonies are traditionally paused until Vishnu 'wakes' on Devutthana Ekadashi.
The Ekadashi of the bright half of Ashadha, also known as Ashadhi, Padma or Harishayani Ekadashi. It marks the start of Chaturmas, the four-month monsoon period when Lord Vishnu is believed to rest in yoga nidra on the serpent Shesha in the cosmic ocean, until Prabodhini Ekadashi in Kartik. Weddings and similar ceremonies are traditionally not held during this time.
Maharashtra
Known as Ashadhi Ekadashi; the Warkari tradition's Pandharpur Wari — a barefoot pilgrimage carrying the palkhis of Sant Tukaram and Sant Dnyaneshwar — ends here at the Vitthal-Rukmini temple.
Across Vishnu temples
Night-long bhajans and Vishnu Sahasranama recitation are common.

Most Hindu festivals are set by the lunar Hindu calendar (a specific Tithi within a specific lunar month), not the solar Gregorian calendar used internationally. Since a lunar year runs roughly 11 days shorter than a solar year, the same Tithi lands on a different Gregorian date each year — this is normal and expected, not an error.
