Jagannath Rath Yatra Puja Timings
Jagannath Rath Yatra on Monday, July 5, 2027
Ashadha, Shukla Paksha, Dwitiya
Begins: 04:51 AM, Jul 05 · Ends: 01:14 AM, Jul 06
Duration: 1 day
258 days
The Rath Yatra sees Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra taken out in giant wooden chariots pulled by thousands of devotees, most famously in Puri, Odisha.
The festival symbolises the deity's journey to visit his birthplace and meet his devotees.
Held on the second day (Dwitiya) of the bright half of Ashadha, when Lord Jagannath, his elder brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra are taken in procession from the Puri temple to the Gundicha Temple, regarded as their aunt's house and garden home. The festival is described in several Puranas. It is also among the few occasions when people who are not admitted into the temple can see the deities.
Puri (Odisha)
The original and largest festival; the chariots are Nandighosa (Jagannath), Taladhwaja (Balabhadra) and Darpadalana (Subhadra), rebuilt every year with work starting on Akshaya Tritiya.
ISKCON and diaspora
Ratha Yatra processions are organised in cities worldwide, including London, New York and San Francisco.
Jagannath Rath Yatra 2027 mein Monday, 5 July ko hai (New Delhi ke panchang ke anusaar). Tithi: Ashadha, Shukla Paksha, Dwitiya. Yeh tithi 04:51 AM, Jul 05 se 01:14 AM, Jul 06 tak rehti hai. Apne shehar ke hisaab se samay thoda alag ho sakta hai.
Most Hindu festivals are set by the lunar Hindu calendar (a specific Tithi within a specific lunar month), not the solar Gregorian calendar used internationally. Since a lunar year runs roughly 11 days shorter than a solar year, the same Tithi lands on a different Gregorian date each year — this is normal and expected, not an error.
