Nag Panchami honours serpent deities for protection from snakebite and for prosperity, an old agrarian tradition tied to the monsoon.
Images or idols of snakes are offered milk and turmeric at household shrines.
Honours the Nagas, the serpent deities, on the fifth day (Panchami) of the bright half of Shravana, as the monsoon brings snakes out of their burrows. Devotees seek protection for their families, and farmers give thanks to snakes for keeping rodents away from the crops. The serpent is also closely tied to Lord Shiva.
Maharashtra
Clay cobra images are worshipped at home; the village of Battis Shirala is especially known for its own long-standing celebration.
Karnataka & Andhra Pradesh
Women offer milk, fruits and lamps at anthills and to stone Naga idols; sweets such as thambittu are offered, and Kukke Subramanya is a major temple for serpent worship.
West Bengal & north-east India
The day is linked to Goddess Manasa, the queen of snakes.
Some parts of Karnataka, Rajasthan & Gujarat
Some sources say the observance is on the dark-half (Krishna) Panchami of Shravana there — confirm locally, as this depends on the calendar followed.

Most Hindu festivals are set by the lunar Hindu calendar (a specific Tithi within a specific lunar month), not the solar Gregorian calendar used internationally. Since a lunar year runs roughly 11 days shorter than a solar year, the same Tithi lands on a different Gregorian date each year — this is normal and expected, not an error.
