Ratha Saptami celebrates the Sun God's chariot, driven by seven horses, and is considered the Sun's own birthday in the Hindu calendar.
A ritual bath before sunrise, chanting Surya mantras, is believed to cure ailments and bring vitality.
Falls on the seventh day (Saptami) of the bright half of Magha and is celebrated as Surya Jayanti, the Sun God's birthday. It is pictured as Surya turning his chariot, drawn by seven horses, towards the north, and is linked with the change of season towards spring. It is also called Arogya Saptami because of its association with health.
Tirumala (Andhra Pradesh)
Lord Malayappa Swamy is taken out on seven different vahanas in a single day, which is why the day is called a 'mini Brahmotsavam'.
Arasavalli (Srikakulam)
The Suryanarayana Swamy temple holds its main festival on this day, with a special darshan of the deity from early morning.
Odisha (Konark)
Devotees take a holy dip at Chandrabhaga beach; the ritual bath is a custom of the day, not part of temple worship at the ruined Sun Temple.

Most Hindu festivals are set by the lunar Hindu calendar (a specific Tithi within a specific lunar month), not the solar Gregorian calendar used internationally. Since a lunar year runs roughly 11 days shorter than a solar year, the same Tithi lands on a different Gregorian date each year — this is normal and expected, not an error.
