Sheetala Ashtami, also called Basoda, is dedicated to Goddess Sheetala and is usually observed on the eighth day of Krishna Paksha after Holi.
Food is prepared a day in advance and eaten cold on the day itself, as devotees traditionally avoid lighting a household fire.
Also called Basoda, it is dedicated to Goddess Sheetala, who is believed to protect against diseases such as smallpox, chickenpox and measles. It falls on the Krishna Paksha Ashtami after Holi — usually about eight days later — though many families observe it on the first Monday or Friday after Holi instead.

Most Hindu festivals are set by the lunar Hindu calendar (a specific Tithi within a specific lunar month), not the solar Gregorian calendar used internationally. Since a lunar year runs roughly 11 days shorter than a solar year, the same Tithi lands on a different Gregorian date each year — this is normal and expected, not an error.
