Duration: 1 day
55 days
Vivah Panchami commemorates the divine marriage of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita, celebrated with particular grandeur in Ayodhya and Janakpur.
Many devotees consider it inauspicious for their own weddings, out of respect for the day's divine significance.
Marks the wedding of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita on the fifth day (Panchami) of the bright half of Margashirsha. Tradition places the marriage in Janakpur, ancient Mithila, after Rama broke Shiva's great bow at Sita's swayamvara. The event is told in the Ramcharitmanas and the Valmiki Ramayana.
Janakpur (Nepal) & Mithila
A week-long festival at the Janaki Temple; a groom's procession comes from Ayodhya and the wedding scenes — from Fulbari Lila to the swayamvara and Ramkalewa — are re-enacted.
Ayodhya
Celebrated in a grand way as Rama's home city; the Tilakotsav ceremony is also connected with Janakpur.

Most Hindu festivals are set by the lunar Hindu calendar (a specific Tithi within a specific lunar month), not the solar Gregorian calendar used internationally. Since a lunar year runs roughly 11 days shorter than a solar year, the same Tithi lands on a different Gregorian date each year — this is normal and expected, not an error.
