Nakshatra #1 of 27

Ashwini

"Born of the horse" / "the horsewoman"

The first nakshatra of the zodiac, Ashwini carries the energy of a fresh start — quick, instinctive, and impatient to move. People strongly influenced by it tend to act first and explain later, with a natural gift for jumping in and fixing things on the fly.

Speed, urgency, and the ability to act before others have even noticed there's something to act on.

Why is it called Ashwini?

It's named for its two presiding deities, the Ashwini Kumaras — twin horse-headed physician gods in the Rig Veda known for racing to the rescue and healing the injured almost instantly. The nakshatra inherits their themes of speed, first response, and restorative healing.

Degree span: 0°00′–13°20′ of the sidereal zodiac (Lahiri Ayanamsa), the same 13°20' segment convention used across this site's Panchang and Nakshatra Transit tools.
