Note: Year number (Bikram Sambat, epoch 57 BCE) uses a fixed-April rollover heuristic. This is a CORRECTION to this site's prior mock, which labeled Nepali as 'Lunar-Solar' — the Nepali civil calendar actually in use today is solar (each month = one solar Rashi transit, confirmed via web search this session), not the Chaitra-first Amanta reckoning India uses for the same-named era. Month name is a real solar (Sun-rashi) computation, confirmed to start at Baisakh=Mesha.

The Nepali Bikram Sambat calendar is a solar calendar in which month lengths vary from 29 to 32 days from year to year and are published in advance by an official panel.
This differs from the Vikram Samvat used in much of India, which is lunisolar. Nepali festival dates such as Dashain and Tihar are worked out from lunar tithis and listed in the patro.
