Day 2
Nanda tithi — good for joyous beginnings
Day 3
Bhadra tithi — auspicious, gentle start
Day 5
Purna tithi — highly auspicious, full and complete
Day 6
Nanda tithi — auspicious for fasting and worship
Day 7
Bhadra tithi — auspicious, gentle start
Day 8
Jaya tithi — favourable for effort and competition
The Tamil calendar is a solar calendar: each month begins when the Sun enters a new sidereal sign (a sankranti), so months are 29 to 32 days long and always start at almost the same point in the Gregorian year.
Festivals and vratas are still fixed by tithi and nakshatra, which is why a Tamil panchangam lists both the solar month and the day's lunar details. Pradosham, Karthigai Deepam and Thai Poosam are examples of observances set by the lunar or star cycle inside the solar month.
