A Sunday that carries Saptami: Surya's day on his own tithi

Bhanu Saptami Dates 2026

Bhanu Saptami is the name given to a Saptami (seventh lunar day, in either fortnight) that falls on a Sunday, the weekday of Surya, the Sun. The two meet only a few times a year, because Saptami returns every fortnight but only occasionally lands on Sunday. Devotees offer water (arghya) to the rising Sun, recite Surya mantras or the Aditya Hridayam, and many keep a simple fast. This page lists the Sundays on which Saptami is present at sunrise; some calendars apply a narrower rule (for example, only Shukla Paksha, or only the Magha Saptami known as Ratha Saptami), so a date here can occasionally differ from a regional almanac.
