Why is it called Rohini?

In Puranic myth, Rohini was the Moon god Chandra's favorite among his 27 wives (the nakshatras themselves, personified as daughters of Daksha) — a favoritism said to have angered the other 26 and drawn a curse on Chandra. Her name, "the red/ruddy one," reflects both physical beauty and ripe, reddening growth.

Degree span: 40°00′–53°20′ of the sidereal zodiac (Lahiri Ayanamsa), the same 13°20' segment convention used across this site's Panchang and Nakshatra Transit tools.
