Rogam

What is Gowri Panchangam?

Gowri Panchangam (கௌரி பஞ்சாங்கம்) is a traditional South Indian system, popular especially in Tamil Nadu, that divides both day (sunrise to sunset) and night (sunset to next sunrise) into 8 equal parts each. Five segments — Amirdha, Uthi, Dhanam, Laabam and Sugam — are Nalla Neram (auspicious); three — Rogam, Soram and Visham — are best avoided for important beginnings. Each weekday's sequence always starts with that weekday's own ruling planet's segment.
