Kartik Purnima is the full-moon day of the month of Kartik, one of the most sacred days of the Hindu year for a holy dip in rivers such as the Ganga. In Varanasi it is celebrated as Dev Diwali, when the ghats are lit with lakhs of lamps in the evening.
It is also associated with Shiva's victory over the demon Tripurasura (hence Tripuri Purnima), and falls on the same full moon as Guru Nanak Jayanti, the birth anniversary of the first Sikh Guru.
A day for the Kartik snan (holy bath), charity and lamp-lighting. It closes the Kartik month's observances, which began after Sharad Purnima.

Kartik Purnima / Dev Diwali 2026 mein Tuesday, 24 November ko hai (New Delhi ke panchang ke anusaar). Tithi: Kartik, Shukla Paksha, Purnima. Yeh tithi 11:42 PM, Nov 23 se 08:23 PM, Nov 24 tak rehti hai. Apne shehar ke hisaab se samay thoda alag ho sakta hai.
Most Hindu festivals are set by the lunar Hindu calendar (a specific Tithi within a specific lunar month), not the solar Gregorian calendar used internationally. Since a lunar year runs roughly 11 days shorter than a solar year, the same Tithi lands on a different Gregorian date each year — this is normal and expected, not an error.
