Dev Uthani Ekadashi, also called Prabodhini or Devutthana Ekadashi, falls on the eleventh day (Ekadashi) of the bright fortnight of Kartik. It marks the day Lord Vishnu is believed to awaken from his four-month cosmic sleep that began at Devshayani Ekadashi.
Its date matters well beyond the fast: Chaturmas ends, and marriages, which are generally not held during Chaturmas, can be scheduled again. Some years the Ekadashi tithi does not cover a sunrise, and Smarta and Vaishnava traditions then observe it on different days; in 2026 these are 20 and 21 November respectively.
Ends Chaturmas, the four-month period of restraint. Vishnu's awakening is celebrated with worship, and the ceremonial marriage of Tulsi (Tulsi Vivah) follows on or after this day.

Dev Uthani Ekadashi 2026 mein Friday, 20 November ko hai (New Delhi ke panchang ke anusaar). Tithi: Kartik, Shukla Paksha, Ekadashi. Yeh tithi 07:16 AM, Nov 20 se 06:31 AM, Nov 21 tak rehti hai. Apne shehar ke hisaab se samay thoda alag ho sakta hai.
Most Hindu festivals are set by the lunar Hindu calendar (a specific Tithi within a specific lunar month), not the solar Gregorian calendar used internationally. Since a lunar year runs roughly 11 days shorter than a solar year, the same Tithi lands on a different Gregorian date each year — this is normal and expected, not an error.
