Frequently Asked Questions
What is a "Ratti"?
Ratti is the traditional unit gemstones are weighed in across Vedic astrology, based on the historical weight of a Gunja seed — roughly 0.91 carats (about 182 milligrams). The Weight column above is given in Ratti, the unit jewellers use when sourcing an astrological stone, not the carat weight you'd see on a typical Western jewellery receipt.
Why does it say to test a gemstone before committing long-term?
A short trial period (commonly a few weeks) is traditionally recommended so you can observe how you feel while wearing it before investing in a larger, higher-quality stone for long-term use — the idea being that a genuine astrological gemstone should feel broadly positive, not uncomfortable, during the trial.
Can I wear more than one recommended gemstone at the same time?
Generally only if the ruling planets are considered astrologically friendly with each other — wearing stones for two planets that are enemies in Vedic astrology is traditionally avoided. This is exactly why a qualified astrologer looking at the whole chart, not just this calculator, is the traditional step before combining stones.
